About the Author:
Pastor Timothy W Heifner was born on July 12, 1952 in Corsicana, Texas. At the age of two his father passed away from a form of Polio. A short two years later his mother passed away from Cancer leaving Tim and his brother Dave to be raised by their Paternal grandparents.
The family moved to a farm in Tupelo, Texas in 1959. The boys were taught an amazing work ethic while tending to the animals and crops. The family was not “well off” but their supplies were always filled when needed. At the age of about seven Tim began to exe of alcohol and by age fourteen he was well on his way to being an alcoholic.
At age 17 Tim married and they had three children. It was at this time the call to the ministry came into Tim’s heart. Due to lifestyle he began to fight the feelings but he didn’t realize the impact God was having on his life. An abundance of alcohol, drugs and women began to choke out any thoughts of ministry. At the age of 32 his marriage ended and the “party” began.
It was about this time that he met a young lady named Charlotte. They fell head over heels in love and were married in 1984 but the party went on. Tim’s drinking got worse and it was now a daily thing to mix a drink by 9 am, 1 pm and any other time that he felt like it. Charlotte would quietly pray that God would deliver him and give her strength.
Fast forward to 2005. Tim was drinking about a half of a gallon of Vodka per day by this time. Their 15 year old son asked Tim to take him on a mission trip and he reluctantly agreed. (Little did he know that God’s plan had come together.) After a three hour drive an a pint of vodka later they arrived and went immediately to work. Five long and hot days they labored to get through.
Three weeks later Charlotte met him at the door as he returned from work. “What’s wrong with you,” she asked. “You are not drinking. You haven’t had a drink in three weeks.”
“Really?” was the only reply that he had. God had delivered him from the demons of drugs and alcohol in an instant. No withdrawals and no desire. GONE.
After a few weeks in his new life, Tim was walking down the hall at home one morning and his feet left the floor. Laying face down he heard the voice. “We did it for you, go and do it for others.”
Confused he looked up and muttered a faint, “huh?”. The voice repeated the words but with more passion and urgency in it. Thus began the ministry. Working with churches Tim and Charlotte began to teach recovery.
Most churches are afraid of recovery, they want to be politically correct and they forget that Jesus is the Healer.
Matthew 11:25-30 (NLT) 25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. 26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way! 27 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
The 12 steps do not completely line up with scripture. Tim really upset a lot of people by showing them that true freedom from addiction comes from “true dedication” to Jesus. Churches wanted to be no part of the truth. So once again they were on their own.
The Lord told Tim to open a coffee shop. As he was looking for a location he had to go to the “bad part of town.” He passed a building and there was that “voice” again. “There is your building.”
“But Lord this is the most depressed part of town. How can we sell coffee and pay the bills here?”, Tim asked. The voice became very stern and answered, “BY NEVER SELLING ANYTHING. GIVE IT AWAY,” was the answer.
Getting ready to open on Saturday the thoughts were racing through Tim’s head. A lady drops by and walks in with two coffee pots. We had none. Another comes by with Three pounds of coffee. Ready to open but we want to feed anyone that comes to the service Sunday evening. Food showed up. Thank you Jesus.
The coffee shop was opened for 5 years, the bills were always paid and there was always enough to eat on Sunday evening whether 5 or 50 showed up. Then the next phase began. Churches wanted to be a part but they wanted a say in the day to day as well as the curriculum. In 2012 Tim had some significant health issues and it was decided to close the shop.
During this time the Lord sat Tim down at the computer one night. He cannot type. The next day he showed about 80 type written pages to Charlotte. “Satan’s Top Ten List. The lies he tells and we believe.” Her first set of questions, “what is this, where did it come from and who typed it?” It really took her by surprise.
Over the next 6 months The Lord had me write 10 more books. After reading them I realized that they are not written for someone that is comfortable in their church pew on Sunday morning. The Lord has revealed to me that He is not 1000 pieces but He is The One True and Living God. Many things that we take for granted are explained in the pages. Truth is not up for interpretation.
I ask that you read with an open mind, ready to receive inspiration by the Holy Spirit of God. Scripture was not written in any mystic code. Scripture was written to the common man to understand with guidance from the Holy Spirit. Be ready to see the truth come to light. I apologize if I offended your denomination. I spoke truth. I’m pretty sure that all denominations are offended the same.
